Why EXIF metadata matters
EXIF metadata can help photographers track camera settings, lens behavior, capture dates, and orientation. The same metadata can also reveal details that are not needed for public web pages, including device information, software history, and sometimes location fields. Before publishing images in articles, listings, social posts, or downloadable media kits, inspect metadata and decide whether it should be retained.
Many social platforms strip metadata automatically, but website uploads, downloadable images, and original files may preserve it. For privacy-sensitive work, inspect the file first and use a metadata removal workflow when location or personal capture details are present.
