Image Blur Detector

Measure high-frequency detail with a Laplacian variance score, get a quick focus estimate, and reveal where strong edges occur.

Upload an image to calculate a focus score and inspect the high-frequency edge response.

Numeric focus score

Use Laplacian variance to compare sharpness among images captured or exported at similar dimensions.

Readable focus estimate

Translate the score into very blurry, soft, moderate, or sharp as a practical starting point.

Edge-response preview

Switch to a normalized map that highlights the pixels contributing most strongly to the score.

Cum funcționează

  1. 1

    Încărcați o imagine

Choose the photo or graphic whose focus and high-frequency detail need inspection.

  2. 2

    Read the score

Review variance, focus estimate, maximum response, and analyzed dimensions.

  3. 3

    Inspect the edge map

Switch previews or download the edge response for closer analysis.

Interpreting a blur detection score

Laplacian variance measures how widely second-derivative edge responses vary. Sharper images commonly create larger values because they contain stronger transitions. The score is content- and resolution-dependent, so compare similar photos rather than treating one threshold as a universal quality guarantee.

Întrebări frecvente

Is a higher score always better?

Usually it indicates more high-frequency detail, but text, noise, compression artifacts, and subject matter can also raise the score.

Can this identify motion blur versus missed focus?

No. It estimates overall high-frequency detail and does not classify the cause of blur.
