Sign PDF with Image
Place a PNG or JPG signature image on selected PDF pages and download a new document. This creates a visible signature appearance only; it is not a cryptographic digital signature, does not prove signer identity, and does not provide certificate-based tamper detection.

Direct answer
What Sign PDF with Image does and does not do
Place a PNG or JPG signature image on selected PDF pages and download a new document. This creates a visible signature appearance only; it is not a cryptographic digital signature, does not prove signer identity, and does not provide certificate-based tamper detection. This browser tool is intentionally narrow: it addresses add signature image to PDF while naming the output and its limits before processing. A new extension or a page that looks correct on one screen is not enough evidence that structure, searchability, signatures, accessibility, color, or archival properties survived.
PDF can hold text, vectors, raster images, forms, annotations, links, layers, metadata, attachments, encryption, and digital signatures. Scanned document images have a different set of concerns: resolution, compression, crop, skew, lighting, order, OCR, and the relationship between master files and access copies. The correct workflow begins by identifying which of those properties matter.
A signature image can be appropriate for informal or authorized workflows, but legal acceptance depends on jurisdiction, consent, process evidence, document controls, and the receiving organization. Existing cryptographic signatures may be invalidated when the file is saved. Work on a duplicate, test the most difficult representative page, and compare the result in a trusted viewer. For legal records, long-term preservation, professional printing, or regulated processes, use approved software and validation requirements rather than relying only on a browser preview.
कार्यप्रवाह
A controlled four-step process
- 1
Inspect the source
Choose an unsigned working copy of the PDF and a tightly cropped signature image.
- 2
Choose settings
Select pages, corner position, display width, and margin.
- 3
Process locally
Generate the document and inspect every placement without covering important text.
- 4
Verify the output
Download the result, retain the source, and follow the applicable approval or signing process.
गुणवत्ता
Pixels, structure, and verification
Visual fidelity
A visual match is only one quality dimension. Check page dimensions, rotation, content order, image sharpness, tonal separation, edge cropping, and whether text or vectors remain structural. When a workflow rasterizes a page, choose the pixel density from the final use and remember that higher resolution increases memory and file size quickly.
Compression choice
Compression should follow content. Clean text and line art respond differently from photographs, shaded forms, and noisy phone captures. Lossless formats preserve rendered pixels but may be large; lossy compression can be efficient for access copies but introduces irreversible artifacts. Never repeatedly recompress a derivative and call it a master.
Output checks
Verification must include more than opening the first page. Check the page count, every selected page, orientation, margins, blank pages, output filename, and the first and last pages. Search known text when searchability matters, validate signatures separately, and confirm the destination application accepts the exact format and features created.
Important limits
Know what the workflow cannot guarantee
- The image alone does not authenticate the signer or detect later document changes.
- Saving a modified PDF can invalidate existing certificate-based signatures.
- Automatic corner placement cannot understand signature lines or document meaning.
- Transparent PNG usually produces cleaner results than a photographed signature on white paper.
Use cases
Where this page fits
Records workflow
Add an authorized approval mark to an internal form.
Production task
Place a visible signature image on a non-sensitive letter.
Review and access
Prepare a draft for review before an approved electronic-signature workflow.
Controlled sharing
Add an initials image to designated pages when policy explicitly permits it.
Technical detail
How local PDF processing works
PDF-lib loads and writes PDF objects in the browser. It can rotate pages, embed PNG or JPG images, draw an image on existing pages, create pages, and serialize a new document. Those capabilities support structural rotation, scan assembly, and visible signature placement without sending the selected files to a conversion server.
PDF.js is used only where page rendering is required. It interprets a PDF page and paints the composed appearance to a canvas. Grayscale conversion then changes each pixel’s luminance and embeds the rendered page in a new PDF. That output is useful as a visual derivative but no longer contains the original live text and vector instructions on converted pages.
Browser memory is finite. A high-resolution page requires width times height times several bytes before encoding, and multipage work can hold source bytes, canvases, images, and output simultaneously. Practical batch limits and explicit errors are better than silent browser crashes or incomplete downloads.
PDF is a complex family of formats. Encryption, malformed cross-reference tables, unusual color spaces, portfolios, interactive forms, scripts, advanced signatures, and proprietary extensions can require specialist tools. Always preserve the source and treat a generated output as untrusted until it has passed the checks required by its destination.
गोपनीयता
Local processing still needs careful handling
The selected files are read with browser file APIs and processed in the active tab. ImageConver does not send them to a conversion endpoint in these tools. External libraries load as code, while document and image bytes stay in browser memory unless another component on the device, such as an extension or enterprise monitor, intercepts them.
Local processing reduces transfer exposure but does not make a shared computer private. Downloads, recent-file lists, browser history, operating-system thumbnails, backups, and synchronized folders may retain copies. Handle signatures, identity documents, contracts, and records according to the applicable policy.
Temporary object URLs are revoked when the tool resets or replaces an output. Close the tab after finishing and move approved results to controlled storage. Keep immutable originals when authenticity, evidence, retention, or future reprocessing matters.
Common questions
Sign PDF with Image FAQ
Is an image signature legally binding?
Legal effect depends on jurisdiction, intent, consent, evidence, and the transaction. This tool only places an image and does not make a legal determination.
Is this a digital signature?
No. A cryptographic digital signature uses a certificate and protects document integrity. This tool creates only a visible signature appearance.
Can I sign several pages?
Yes. Enter individual pages or ranges, but review every placement because page layouts may differ.
Which image format is best?
A transparent PNG with tight cropping usually looks cleanest. JPG works but always has a rectangular background.
Does the document leave my device?
No. PDF and signature bytes are processed locally by PDF-lib in the current browser tab.
Will existing digital signatures remain valid?
Usually not after the PDF is modified and saved. Preserve the signed original and use an approved signing platform for certificate workflows.
How do I remove a signature background?
Prepare a transparent PNG in an image editor or background-removal tool before placing it. Always verify the final appearance.
